Fishing from the garden, where the Lot meets the Truyère

Few holiday lets let you walk down to the water in slippers. Here, a gate secured by a combination padlock at the far end of the apple orchard meadow opens onto a stairway that drops into the Truyère. You can set up your rod in the morning, fish for an hour before breakfast, and come back up without having met a soul.

Two rivers, two characters

The confluence at Entraygues brings together two very different watercourses. The Truyère, a dammed river, alternates calm reaches with livelier stretches depending on releases. The Lot, wider and slower downstream of the village, lends itself more to predators and coarse fish.

Heading up towards the gorges, the successive reservoirs of Couesques, Cambeyrac and, higher still, Lac de Sarrans, open up a very large playground.

Before you set off

A fishing permit is compulsory. It can be bought online at cartedepeche.fr or from outlets in the village. Check the category of the stretch, the open season and the legal sizes: they vary from one section to another, and the rules on the Lot are not those on the Truyère.

One last piece of advice: Truyère levels depend on the dams. A bank that was walkable yesterday may not be tomorrow morning. Have a look before settling in.
