Entraygues is one of four trailheads of a 170 km network of waymarked mountain-bike routes, alongside Golinhac, Couesques and Pons. The circuits play on the relief of the two valleys: honest climbs through chestnut woods, descents to the river, and viewpoints that justify the effort.
The Lot valley by bike, V86
The V86 cycle route follows the Lot and links Entraygues-sur-Truyère to Estaing. It is the family option in this region: less climbing than the mountain bike circuits, a rideable surface, and villages every few kilometres to stop in.
Road cycling
Road circuits are waymarked in the hills, with maps on sale at the tourist office for two euros. The terrain is demanding, this is a country of short steep climbs, but the roads carry little traffic.
Hiring locally
Electric hybrid bikes can be hired in Entraygues. On this relief that is worth serious consideration, including for strong cyclists: gradients in the Lot valley often exceed 10 per cent.
One practical note
The cottage has a reserved covered space in a private garage, so bikes can be kept under cover overnight rather than left outside.
